⛳️ Bridgestone Tour B Golf Balls Series

...a full lineup for any golfer

Hey fellow golfer, welcome to the Wednesday edition of the Red Birdie Golf newsletter, here’s what we got for you today:

TOURNAMENT NEWS

PGA TOUR

The next stop for the PGA Tour is the Zozo Championship in Chiba, Japan this weekend. The field is small, only 78 golfers, and 13 of those golfers were invited straight from the Japan Golf Tour.

The shortened field is also somewhat devoid of stars. The world’s top golfers including Scheffler, Rahm, and Rory will not be playing again this weekend which opens the tournament up quite a bit.

Our pick for the tournament is Rickie Fowler.

He started playing really good golf at the beginning of the summer and has cooled off considerably. He can still win any tournament any weekend depending on how he’s playing.

If Fowler does not win, look for Sahith Theegala to play well again.

LIV TOUR

LIV Golf has their second consecutive tournament after playing in Saudi Arabia last week, the tournament turns its eyes to Miami and Trump National.

This is the Team Championship for LIV Golf and features the Tour’s largest purse at $50 million.

There are 12, 4-man teams competing this week and the winning team will take home $16 million.

The tournament will consist of two days of match play culminating in a final day of stroke-play for the championship.

Some of the team captains include: Brooks Koepka, Phil Mickelson, Dustin Johnson, Cam Smith and Bryson DeChambeau.

DP TOUR

The Estrella Damm N.A. Andalucía Masters in Andalucia, Spain will be played on the European Tour this weekend.

The field for this tournament actually has more star power than the PGA Tour event in Japan and includes Wyndham Clark and Matt Kuchar from the US along with Ryan Fox and Rafa Cabrera Bello.

This is another great DP Tour event in Spain as the Tour continues to draw some big names from around the world.

Cabrera Bello could come out on top in this one as he is playing in his home country, where his most recent win also came.

LPGA TOUR

The BMW Ladies Championship will be played this weekend at Seowon Hills at Seowon Valley Country Club in Wonju, South Korea.

Last year’s winner, Lydia Ko, will be teeing it up again on Thursday and look for her to play well again this year.

There is no cut for this half-field event, so you will get to see your favorite golfers play through Sunday no matter how they are playing.

Look for Ko to perform well here again, along with some of the LPGA’s top stars including Lilia Vu and Ruoning Yin.

Money on Tour

With a PGA, LIV, and DP tournament being played the difference in prize money for each winner was on full display.

The PGA Tour is still by far the most popular golf tour and the best golfers still want to win PGA tournaments.

The money, however, does not seem to add up, and it will be interesting to see the men’s professional tours figure out how to combine.

Prize Money This Past Weekend:

  • DP Tour: $550,000

  • PGA Tour: $1.5 million

  • LIV Tour: $4 million to the winner, $18 million to Gooch for points race, and $3 million to the winning team.

NEW GOLF GEAR

Bridgestone always has a real good golf ball in their lineup, and the Tour B is 2023’s version of that. There are 4 different versions of the ball that focus on high spin or max distance depending on your swing speed.

These balls are very specific in who they are designed to help, so make sure you figure out what type of swing you have to know which ball best fits your game.

New Drivers

New drivers come out each and every year.

Sometimes the changes and updates are subtle and mean very little to most players.

Other times, the changes from the previous year’s model can add distance and accuracy to every drive.

The trick is figuring out the difference and knowing when it is time to upgrade to the new model.

The key is to see what kind of life your current driver has, figure out what features are most important to you, and then do your research.
