⛳️ Cleveland CBX2 Mini Review

...one of our favorites if you can still find it

Hey fellow golfer, welcome to the Friday edition of the Red Birdie Golf newsletter, here’s what we got for you today:

FRIDAY GOLF TIP

Under A Tree?

We have all been there. You hit a nice tee shot and it rolls, hits a rock, rolls a little more, and you end up under a tree. There are a lot of different ways to handle it, but there is something psychologically difficult about this golf shot. Here are 5 ways to make that difficult shot a little easier:

  1. Find your window.

  2. Determine the distance.

  3. Choose a club with low loft.

  4. Position the ball in the middle of your stance.

  5. Use a short backswing and follow through, almost like you are punching the shot out.

COURSE OF THE WEEK

Whistling Straits

Whistling Straits is a “must play” for any golf lover.

This golf course, located in Sheboygan, WI, is one of the most famous luxury courses in America.

It has hosted events like the Ryder Cup, the PGA Championship, and the US Senior Open.

The Straits Course is a par-72 at around 7800 yards from the back tees, and it is beautiful.

A links course that runs along Lake Michigan and has some incredible scenery on just about every hole.

The course is pretty open with a few large trees scattering the fairways with huge rolling greens, deep pot-bunkers, and some grass covered dunes situated around the course as well.

If you get the chance to play it, there are some really good holes, but the scenery is what most people remember.

If you do not like sand, you should avoid Whistling Straits at all costs, and from the tips it is one of the most difficult courses in the world.

Nos. 12 and 14 each have 18 bunkers up and down the holes while no. 18 has the fewest on the course.

There are over 1,000 individual bunkers throughout the course with around 100 on the eighth hole alone. T

he thing that makes this course very difficult is what the course is named after…the wind.

“Whistling Straits” is aptly named.

The wind is almost always an issue, but on a particularly windy day, you will not find a more difficult 18 holes.

NEW GEAR MINI REVIEW

Cleveland, in our opinion, does one thing better than any other golf manufacturer…They make incredible wedges.

The CBX 2 is a wedge with all of the feel and performance that Cleveland is known for combined with the forgiveness and stability of a cavity back club.

Most golfers use cavity back irons until they get to their wedges.

It is like, all of a sudden, they are supposed to be better at golf and know how to hit blades just because they are wedges.

Cleveland changed that and made an excellent wedge with the benefits of a cavity back iron.

Pros

  • Performs as well as most blades but with the forgiveness you find in a cavity back club.

  • Great distance and forgiveness on full swing and approach shots without losing forgiveness and feel around the green.

  • Designed for forgiveness and ease of use.

  • Tour zip grooves give you a really high spin rate and good feel around the green.

Cons

  • A different look and feel at setup than a traditional blade that some Golf traditionalists will not like.

  • Less spin, flexibility, and shot-making around the greens.

Until Monday!
