Use an old ball

Hey fellow golfer, welcome to the Monday edition of the Red Birdie Golf newsletter, here’s what we got for you today:
TOURNAMENT RECAP
PGA TOUR
Camilo Villegas shot a -6 Sunday to finish 2 strokes ahead of the Saturday’s leader Alex Noren.
Noren was playing great golf all weekend, and many expected him to take home the trophy yesterday.

Instead, it was Villegas storming across the finish line with his first win in 9 years…Yes, you heard that correctly.
Villegas went 9 years in between wins on Tour.
The field was difficult to pick and it was one of the weaker PGA Tour fields in recent memory, but Villegas played great golf and finally got his win after a T2 the previous week.
Our picks for the tournament, Ryan Palmer and Brian Gay, finished T8 and T37 respectively.
Palmer had an excellent final round, shooting a 67 to climb up the leaderboard while Gay had his worst round of the weekend to fall a few places on the final day.
Look for both golfers to compete for some wins on Tour this season in the following weeks.
LIV TOUR
The LIV Tour will begin again in 2024. An early version of the schedule shows 14 events for the second consecutive season along with the possibility of events being scheduled on the same weekend as some of the bigger PGA Tour tournaments.
DP TOUR
Max Homa finished the tournament at -19 and was never really challenged on Sunday after starting the day with just a 1-stroke lead.
He finished 5 shots better than Nicolai Hojgaard as the world No. 8 had an eagle and 6 birdies in the final round.

One of our picks, Max Homa, took home an impressive win at the Nedbank while Justin Thomas finished T4 and Tommy Fleetwood finished T12. Look for Homa to compete at some of the bigger tournaments this year and maybe even for one of the 4 majors.
LPGA TOUR
Lilia Vu’s 3 early birdies and final round 66 gave her a win on the LPGA Tour for the fourth time this season.
Emily Pederson started the day with the lead, but that margin evaporated quickly as she shot a 74 and finished T5.

Alison Lee and Azahara Munoz finished T2 at -16 for the tournament.
Look for Vu to take home a few more wins this year as she remains one of the best in the world.
We went out on a limb with our pick of Lilia Vu, and she came through with her 4th win of the young season.
She started the round 3 shots back and finished with a comfortable 3 shot win.
GOLF FASHION
Golf, when it comes to fashion and comfort, is all about the shoes.
As far as quality, fashionable shoes go, Ecco is a well known brand with a traditional style and a reputation for quality.

This reputation holds true for their golf shoes as well.
The Gore Tex is breathable but also 100% waterproof making it ideal for almost any condition.
The shoes feel comfortable and athletic so you can feel confident standing over the ball in almost any conditions.
On top of that, they look great.
They have a splash of color with a classic, traditional silhouette that is perfect for the course and the 19th hole.
DAD JOKE OF THE WEEK
When Using an Old Ball Is Prudent
Old Joe was playing golf all alone as he stood on the 150 yard, par three, 9th hole.
Just as Joe approached the tee a voice from the heavens said, "Joe use a new ball."
Joe looked around and not a soul was in view, so he put a brand new ball on the tee.
Before he could take his shot the same voice called, "Joe, take a practice swing."
Joe obeyed and swung as hard as he could, slightly off balance at the end.
The same voice called one last time, "Joe, use an old ball."
Until Wednesday!
