A minister in a sand trap

Hey fellow golfer, welcome to the Monday edition of the Red Birdie Golf newsletter, here’s what we got for you today:

TOURNAMENT RECAP

PGA TOUR

There is no tournament to recap from this past weekend as the Tour took a Thanksgiving break.

On Thursday, players will be teeing it up at the Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas, so be prepared to see some of the best golfers out there like Rickie Fowler, Wyndham Clark, Sam Burns, Tony Finau, and more.

LIV TOUR

For the players who finished between 25th and 44th on last year’s LIV Tour, they are placed in what is referred to as the “Open Zone” which means they can be released or traded, and if they are traded they end up in golf’s version of free agency.

Since the PGA Tour is an individual-based golf league, this is something new and should bring at least some attention to the fledgeling tour.

DP TOUR

Min Woo Lee won the Fortinet Australian PGA Championship this past weekend on the DP Tour by 3 shots over Rikuya Hoshino.

The field in Australia was strong, but Lee’s game was stronger as he went 64-66-66-68.

Lee had a 3-shot lead going into Sunday, but after just two holes Lee was tied with Hoshino and looked to be in trouble.

Lee turned it around immediately, and after just six holes, he was back up by 3 strokes.

He ended up winning the tournament by that same number…3.

Our pick, Cam Smith, did not even come close to making the cut after finishing at +9 through 2 rounds.

He never got his swing going, but look for him to show up on quite a few leaderboards in 2024 and beyond.

Our second pick, Adam Scott, was in the top-10 all weekend long, but dropped a little on Saturday and Sunday to finish in 6th place at -12.

LPGA TOUR

Just like the PGA Tour, the LPGA took the week off for Thanksgiving, and will be returning December 8 for the Grant Thornton Invitational and its $4,000,000 purse.

This will be the first time that the Grant Thornton Inviational is played.

GOLF FASHION

Puma has been around forever as a sporting goods and apparel company.

Puma is a little edgier than the other companies of its size and scope and they focus more on sports like soccer and track than basketball and football.

With that said, their golf apparel looks and feels great with a little of the edginess that Puma has established.

Puma makes some classic pants, but the vibrant colors, plaid design, and high quality are what draw many of their customers.

Puma’s golf pants can be found at a mid price range and is less expensive than many comparable pants.

DAD JOKE OF THE WEEK

A Minister in a Sand Trap

The minister drove into a sand trap. He picked up his golf club, broke it but didn't say a word.

Then he picked up the golf bag and tore it to shreds but didn't say a word.

He then took out all the golf balls and flung them into the woods but did not say one word.

Finally he muttered, "I'm gonna have to give it up."

"Golf?" asked the caddie.

"No," he replied, "the ministry.”
