⛳️ Dad Joke, Trouble Getting Out of Traps

Hey fellow golfer, welcome to the Monday edition of the Red Birdie Golf newsletter, here’s what we got for you today:

TOURNAMENT RECAP

PGA TOUR

There was no PGA Tour tournament to recap.

Check out our Wednesday newsletter to see who we think will win the World Wide Technology Championship in Los Cabos Mexico.

It is looking like a pretty good field that should lead to a competitive and fun championship.

LIV TOUR

LIV Golf has not even announced their 2024 Tour dates and schedule yet.

The league will probably start its 2024 in that calendar year like they did for 2023.

DP TOUR

Sami Valimaki won the Qatar Masters on Sunday after battling in a playoff with Jorge Campillo.

Both golfers finished 2 shots ahead of the rest of the field, but it was Valimaki who fought back after trailing Campillo for most of the day.

He took the lead on the 17th only to lose a shot on the 18 for a playoff.

He carded a “4” on the par-5 playoff hole to win the event.

The win was Valimaki’s 2nd DP Tour championship victory and the first in more than 3.5 years.

Valmiaki was emotional after the win and seems to be ready to compete for the spot more often on the European Tour.

LPGA TOUR

France’s Celine Boutier won the Maybank Invitational in a weather-delayed playoff with Atthaya Thitikul from Thailand.

It was an eventful tournament and included the longest playoff ever on the LPGA Tour at 9 holes.

The two women went birdie-to-birdie and par-to-par over 8 holes before Boutier finally took home the championship on the 9th playoff hole.

The win was Boutier’s 4th of the LPGA season as she continues to build one of the most impressive resumes in women’s game.

Rose Zhang started the day with the 54-hole lead but fell to a T3 at -19.

GOLF FASHION

With all of the new golf apparel companies coming out over the past 25 years, a couple of brands continue to excel at keeping up with the trends without losing their “classic” golf style.

If you are looking for a middle-of-the-road price with great style and functionality, Adidas is one of the best.

They sell anything you could possibly need, other than the clubs themselves, and the brand looks great in the process.

Adidas has been around since 1949 and making golf apparel for almost as long.

They are best known for their shoes and jackets, but they also make really good golf shorts, golf pants, and golf shirts as well.

The 3-stripe logo is iconic and is a symbol of athletic quality and comfort for almost any sport.

DAD JOKE OF THE WEEK

Getting It Out of the Traps

An octogenarian who was an avid golfer moved to a new town and joined the local Country Club.

He went to the Club for the first time to play, but was told there wasn't anybody he could play with, because they were already out on the course.

He repeated several times that he really wanted to play.

Finally, the Assistant Pro said he would play with him and would give him a 12-stroke handicap.

The 80 year old said, "I really don't need a handicap, as I have been playing quite well.

The only real problem I have is getting out of sand traps."

And he did play well.

Coming onto the 18th, the old man had a long drive, but it landed in one of the sand traps around the hole.

Shooting from the sand trap, he hit a very high ball, which landed on the green and rolled into the hole!

The Pro walked over to the sand trap where his opponent was still standing.

He said, "Nice shot! But I thought you said you have a problem getting out of sand traps?"

"Well, I do! Here, help me out!"
