⛳️ Garmin Approach S10 Golf Watch
...an inexpensive option with cool features
Hey fellow golfer, welcome to the Wednesday edition of the Red Birdie Golf newsletter, here’s what we got for you today:
TOURNAMENT NEWS
PGA TOUR
The Shriner’s Children Open is being played this weekend at TPC Summerlin in Las Vegas.
The field is, again, on the weaker side compared to other PGA events, but there are some good golfers playing.
It is also interesting because Lexi Thompson has accepted a sponsor’s exemption to play, offering many a chance to see the LPGA Tour star for the first time.
Our pick for the tournament is J.T. Potson.
He has played consistently here and has a good chance of putting everything together this weekend.
Si Woo Kim is another good choice if Potson does not play well.
LIV TOUR
The next LIV Tour event is this Friday - Saturday at Royal Greens Golf and Country Club in Saudi Arabia.
Royal Greens is one of the best golf courses in the Middle East and events have been won here recently by Dustin Johnson, Graeme McDowell and Harold Varner III.
For a tour started by a group from Saudi Arabia, this is a home course for the Tour and you can expect every LIV golfer who is able to play to be out there this weekend.
Look for Bryson DeChambeau to play well this weekend as he seems to be putting his game back together piece by piece.
DP TOUR
This busy professional golf weekend includes the European Tour event, the Acciona Open de España in Madrid.
There are a few notable entries into the Spanish Open including Justin Rose and Thomas Bjorn, but Jon Rahm is by far the highest profile member of this year’s field.
3 time winner Jon Rahm has to be the favorite this weekend as he continues to be an ambassador for the Spanish Open.
He won in 2018, 2019, and last year’s event to take home 3 of the past 4 titles.
LPGA TOUR
The Buick LPGA Shanghai will be played this weekend from Oct. 12-15.
There has only been two other playings of the tournament in Shanghai, both of which were won by American Danielle Kang.
This will be the first time since 2019 that an event was played here in Shanghai.
A lot has changed in the world and on the LPGA Tour since this tournament was last played.
Kang, the two-time defending champion, will be looking for her first win of the season after a few top-10s.
Some of the top ranked players in the world will also be teeing it up this weekend including Lydia Ko and Minjee Lee.
GOLF NEWS
Korn Ferry Tour to PGA
Recently, 30 players from the Korn Ferry Tour punched their tickets to the PGA Tour.
The final event of the series wrapped up around the same time the FedEx Cup did and the top 30 players on the season-long points list got their Tour card.
One of the most interesting stories involved Pierceson and Parker Coody, third generation PGA Tour golfers and fraternal twins.
Their grandfather won the 1971 Masters and their dad started 2 PGA Tour events during his career.
NEW GOLF GEAR
There is new golf gear coming out all of the time, and Garmin is one of those companies that just keeps putting out new watches.
The S10 watch is a great entry level golf watch if you are just trying to figure out if it is worth it.
The watch is comfortable, attractive, lightweight, and displays clear hole layouts of thousands of courses across the U.S.
It is fairly inexpensive and does not have a lot of extra features, but it is a good beginner level golf watch.

COVID and Golf
As strange as it sounds, COVID was one of the best things to ever happen for the popularity of golf.
People were forced to take time off, spend time outside, and figure out what to do when they could not work or socialize indoors.
They flocked to the golf course, and that popularity has not really died down.
Even with the rising costs of golf gear and greens fees, golf remains as popular as ever and gear continues to fly off the shelves.
Until Friday!
