⛳️ Golfing with the Wife

Hey fellow golfer, welcome to the Monday edition of the Red Birdie Golf newsletter, here’s what we got for you today:

TOURNAMENT RECAP

PGA TOUR

Collin Morikawa found himself back in the winner’s circle again this past weekend at the Zozo Championship.

The win was his sixth on Tour, but it was his first in more than 2 years, and it was done in dominating fashion.

Morikawa won the event by 6 strokes after a -7 final round and you could see the relief in his face during some of the post round interviews.

It was also special because the Zoo is played in Japan, the country from where his great-grandparents emigrated.

Our picks, Rickie Fowler and Sahith Theegala, did not fare as well.

Fowler finished at +7, and had there been a cut at the Zozo, he would not have been playing on the weekend.

Theegala played better and finished T19.

LIV TOUR

There were only 4 teams left competing for the spot on Sunday after the other 8 teams were eliminated in earlier rounds.

The final four teams’ captains were Dustin Johnson, Bryson DeChambeau, Bubba Watson, and Joaquin Niemann.

These four teams were competing for the $14 million final prize, and since Johnson was joined by Patrick Reed and Pat Perez, they were clearly the favorites.

The final round was stroke play, so the lowest scoring team would win.

The DeChambeau-led Crushers ended up winning the LIV Tour team championship yesterday.

The team was leading for almost the entirety of the back nine and went into the final hole with a combined 4 shot lead.

In all, it was a pretty routine final round for the Crushers.

The team is made up of DeChambeau, Charles Howell III, Paul Casey, and Anirban Lahiri.

Lahiri had the lowest round of any of the final 4 teams on Sunday.

DP TOUR

Wyndham Clark and Matt Kuchar weńt to Spain this past weekend for the Estrella Damm N.A. Andalucía Masters, and they both came away without a top-10 finish.

Adrian Meronk, after not being selected for the Ryder Cup, showed he truly belonged after a win at the Andalucia Masters this weekend.

He shot a closing round -6 to pass Matti Schmid for the one-shot win.

After bogeying 2 of the first 3 holes, it looked like it was going to be a long day for Meronk, but he played his final 15 holes to near perfection including 2 eagles on the front 9.

Clark finished T56 at -1 and finished with a closing round 74.

Kuchar finished at T19, a much better showing that he saved with a final day -5 to move up the leaderboard considerably.

LPGA TOUR

Minjee Lee walked off the Seowon Valley Country Club golf course on Sunday with her 10th LPGA Tour title after a playoff with Alison Lee in South Korea.

This was Minjee Lee’s 7th LPGA victory of a tournament in which she enters the final round with a lead.

It is one thing to play good golf on Tour, it is another thing to have the mental capacity to close out multiple tournaments like Lee has done over her career.

We were watching for Lydia Ko to play well, and her 3rd place finish shows that she did just that.

She was 2 shots off the lead and was in contention throughout the weekend.

GOLF FASHION

These golf shirts are some of the most comfortable and fashionable you will find.

Some American consumers may brush off the idea of a European Designer golf shirt, but these are built for comfort and function even more than they are for fashion.

Do not sleep on these golf shirts just because they are not the normal American brand.

These shirts feel even better than they look, but they do come at a somewhat high price point.

They feel and perform like a more fashionable Under Armour shirt, but they may be even more comfortable and higher quality.

DAD JOKE OF THE WEEK

Golfing with the Wife

I woke up in the hospital emergency room the other day and could not remember how I got there.

The intern came over and asked me if I knew what happened and my memory started to come back.

I explained, "Well, I was playing golf with my wife. I had been having a great game, but my wife was not playing as well.”

“On the 15th tee I hit a beautiful shot, 300 yards straight down the middle of the fairway. My wife steps up and hits a tremendous slice that leaves the course and lands in the pasture out of bounds.”

“We both went looking for the ball. Just as we were about to give up I spotted a glint of white coming from underneath a cow's behind, just under its tail. I lifted the tail to make sure. Then I called to my wife saying, ‘Here, honey, this looks like yours.’”
