European beating

Hey fellow golfer, welcome to the Monday edition of the Red Birdie Golf newsletter, here’s what we got for you today:

TOURNAMENT RECAP

PGA TOUR

The U.S. team never really found their game at the Ryder Cup this past weekend, and they never really even threatened the Europeans.

It was the 7th time in a row that the American team has lost the Ryder Cup being played outside of the U.S. as the Europeans continue to dominate this competition.

The Captain Picks for the U.S. went 4-12-4 throughout the tournament and was a big reason for the poor showing.

This is how the Europeans dominated the first two days:

Session 1: Europe 4 : U.S. 0

Session 2: Europe 2.5 : U.S. 1.5

Session 3: Europe 3 : U.S. 1

Session 4: U.S. 3 : Europe 1

Session 5: The teams tied 6 - 6

DP TOUR

The European Ryder Cup Team was led by their Big-3 of Rory McIlory, Jon Rahm, and Viktor Hovland.

Those three players went a combined 9-2-3 as compared to who many consider the best golfer in the world right now, Scottie Scheffler, who went 0-2-2. Scheffler did not pick up one win for the U.S. team.

Rory alone went 4-1 over the tournament and was the Ryder Cup’s highest point earner.

After a 17.5 - 10.5 drubbing of the Americans, the Ryder Cup will be on U.S. soil in 2024.

Bethpage Black will be the home of the Ryder Cup next year, and if the 2002 U.S. Open that Tiger dominated is any indication, next year’s event will be fun to watch.

Bethpage Black made some of the world’s best golfers look like amateurs, and in a scoring layout like this one, you never know what is going to happen.

LPGA TOUR

Hae Ran Ryu ran away with the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship, finishing at -19 and 3 shots ahead of runner-up Linnea Strom.

Last year’s winner, 19-year-old Atthaya Thitikul, finished with 13 other golfers T48 at -6.

Ryu, a rookie on the LPGA Tour, went wire-to-wire in this year’s tournament finishing with a final round 66.

While Ryu had won 5 tournaments in Korea, this was her first LPGA Tour win.

DAD JOKE OF THE WEEK

One Long Putt

Standing on the tee of a relatively long par three with a pond just in front of the green, a confident golfer said to his caddy, "Looks like a four iron and a putt to me."

The caddy argued with him a bit and suggested that he instead play it safe and hit a 8-iron then a wedge.

The golfer was insulted and proceeded to berate the caddy on the tee telling him that he was a better golfer than that and how dare he underestimate his game.

Giving in, the caddy handed the gentleman the four iron he had asked for.

He proceeded to top the ball and watched as it rolled about fifteen yards off the front of the tee.

Immediately the caddy handed him his putter and said, "And now for one heck of a putt..."
