⛳️ Happy Thanksgiving!

Hey fellow golfer, welcome to the Wednesday edition of the Red Birdie Golf newsletter, here’s what we got for you today:

TOURNAMENT NEWS

PGA TOUR

The PGA Tour is taking a Thanksgiving break this weekend and will return again November 30. In the meantime, here are some winners and losers when it comes to a PGA Tour card for the upcoming year:

DP Tour Winners of a PGA Tour card: Adrian Meronk, Ryan Fox, Victor Perez, and 7 others on the DP World Tour earned their spot on the PGA.

PGA Tour players who lost their cards: Brandt Snedeker, Jason Dufner, Charley Hoffman, and Zach Johnson among others.

LIV TOUR

The LIV Tour does not start again until 2024, but the Tour recently announced that free agency for the Tour has started.

Some of the teams have one or more spots open depending on whether or not each player had enough points to maintain their contract status.

It should be an interesting free agency as Captains are actively recruit players to fill their positions.

DP TOUR

The Fortinet Australian PGA Championship is starting Thursday, and there are some good golfers teeing it up at Royal Queensland Golf Club.

Cameron Smith won the event last year and has a great shot to take home the championship again.

Other than Smith, look for Min Woo Lee and Jed Morgan to play well enough to win this weekend in Australia.

Our pick for the tournament is a repeat from Cameron Smith.

He is the best golfer at this tournament and he is also playing well and has won this tournament at this course before.

If Smith struggles, look for Adam Scott to come out and play well.

LPGA TOUR

The LPGA is off from Thanksgiving to the new year. Look for the tour to get back on track on January 19, 2024.

PGA Tour-LIV Golf Talks Ongoing

The deadline for a deal between the PGA and LIV Tours is December 31.

This is just a stated deadline that really holds no legal or bargaining weight, but does put a timetable on an agreement between the two sides.

About 5 months ago, a deal seemed imminent, as a “framework agreement” was already in place.

There is now speculation that the two sides are much farther apart than was previously thought and a deal may not get done.

There are three possible, and quite obvious, outcomes that could occur.

An agreement could be reached (not likely), the deal could be cancelled (equally unlikely), or a new deadline could be worked out between the two sides (highly likely).

NEW GOLF GEAR

Oakley sunglasses are some of the best sunglasses in general, but they are almost unbeatable on the golf course. The Flak 2.0 by Oakley are ideal for golfing.

They have a standard stress-resistant O-Matter frame size to keep your glasses on your head and off the ground.

They also offer enhanced coverage of high-definition optic lenses that will not only protect your eyes from the sun and the wind, but will also optimize your peripheral vision as well.

In addition, they offer a soft temple detailing that allows a better grip as you sweat more for improved stability.

Rory Resigns, Spieth Replaces Him on PGA Policy Board

Rory McIlory resigned his spot on the PGA policy board citing time constraints and a desire for more family time.

Spieth was voted in by the five remaining player directors headlined by Tiger Woods and including Patrick Cantlay, Charley Hoffman, Peter Malnati, and Webb Simpson.

This new addition to the board is even more important than usual because of the ongoing discussions with the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund about combining LIV and PGA together into on for-profit company.
