⛳️ Jay Monahan vs Greg Norman...

who will be in control?

Hey fellow golfer, welcome to the Wednesday edition of the Red Birdie Golf newsletter, here’s what we got for you today:

TOURNAMENT NEWS

PGA TOUR

Our topic for this week, since there are still no tournaments until the Tournament of Champions on Jan. 4, is who will be this year’s PGA Tour Player of the Year.

With Rahm defecting to LIV and Rory struggling a little at the end of last year, Scottie Scheffler seems like the obvious choice.

There are a couple of other golfers that are starting to come into their own as well, so while Scheffler is the obvious choice, he is not ours.

We think that Viktor Hovland will put together the best year of his career and be the PGA Tour POY.

He certainly showed last year that he can get hot and beat anybody in the world.

Our guess is that he will “get hot” a lot more often in 2024.

LIV TOUR

LIV Golf will have their opening tournament on February 2, so there is a long time to discuss the LIV-PGA relationship until that happens.

LIV players will continue to compete in the majors this year as well.

With Jon Rahm and Brooks Koepka with LIV, there is a chance there will be at least as many major champions from LIV as there are from the PGA Tour.

DP TOUR

The next DP Tour tournament will take place on January 11 in Dubai.

LPGA TOUR

The first LPGA Tour of the event is still weeks away on January 18 at the HGV Tournament of Champions.

GOLF NEWS

Monahan vs Norman

Not too long ago, Jay Monahan looked like the man that would lead the PGA-LIV merger into a bright future.

Now, the future looks much murkier.

There is still a chance the Tours could merge prior to the Friday deadline, but it is more likely that the deadline will be pushed back.

No matter what happens, the question now is who will be out of a job first, Greg Norman or Jay Monahan.

NEW GOLF GEAR

This is the Cadillac of golf simulators and the package that comes with it makes indoor golf a reality in your own home.

It is quite expensive but it is also very thorough in giving you a screen setup, putting green, tee box, and a perfect place to strike the ball.

If you want to be able to play a round at any time of any day, this is a great way to bring the golf course to your house.

Indoor Golf

Golf simulators and indoor golfing is the new “it” thing in golf.

Look at companies like 5 Iron Golf or The Golf Stop.

Businesses that set up golf simulators with launch monitors and other technology allow golfers to practice their games and even keep score without leaving the building.

If you add food and drinks to the mix, the simulator business can be a real income boost to those who are willing to put enough time into it.
