⛳️ "No Divots For Tiger"

🤯

Hey fellow golfer, welcome to the Friday edition of the Red Birdie Golf newsletter, here’s what we got for you today:

FRIDAY GOLF TIP

No Divots For Tiger

There was a recent video of Scottie Scheffler asking Tiger if he ever takes divots when he is hitting his irons.

Remember, not only is Tiger one of the greatest golfers ever, he is one of the greatest ball strikers of all time too.

Tiger replied, “I’m just picking it…When I’m swinging well, I don’t take divots.”

Scheffler, like many of us, was dumbfounded. Judging by his face, he could not believe that Tiger Woods did not take many divots.

Tiger simply walked away, but was later asked about the “divot conversation,” to which he replied:

The point is, we all have our own natural swing.

Just like Tiger did, figure out what you do naturally and then tweak that into your unique swing. Also, if you can hit it like Tiger…Hit it like Tiger!

COURSE OF THE WEEK

Bandon Dunes

When you are thinking about the best golf courses in the world, or even the best in America, Oregon is probably not the first place your mind turns.

Bandon Dunes, however, will make you rethink that assumption very quickly.

It is a Tom Doak-designed course that opened in 2001, and while it will not be hosting a lot of PGA Tour championships, it is an incredibly beautiful course.

It sits right on top of the Pacific Ocean, and the 14th hole is one of the most beautifully scenic holes in the country.

It is only 6673 yards from the tips, but the par-71 course is still quite challenging.

The fairways are naturally undulating and the greens are set in the midst of naturally occurring dunes that can make your golf ball do some crazy things on a mishit.

It is a fun and challenging course, though beginners may struggle with some of the more difficult holes.

NEW GEAR MINI REVIEW

The TaylorMade Spider has been on the market for years now and it shows no signs of losing its place as one of the best and most popular mallet putters.

As mallet putters continue to gain in popularity and market share over the more traditional blade putter, it seems like TaylorMade saw this trend beginning to happen years before anyone else.

This is by far TaylorMade’s most forgiving and stable putter and is really one of the most forgiving putters out there.

With a high MOI and a huge sweet spot, it is a lot more difficult to miss your putt because of a mishit.

The alignment aid, with the spider on the top center, is very easy to follow and use.

The weight of this putter is as far back as possible and pushed to the very outside perimeter of this club.

That just means that it does not really matter where on the club face you hit the ball, you are going to get good distance and a true roll.

The weight is also adjustable so that you can move it around depending on what your stroke is doing.

The best thing about the Spider SB is that it takes a lot of human error out of putting and allows you to focus on your own stroke and read of the green.

Pros

  • Easily TaylorMade’s most forgiving putter.

  • Very high MOI based on clubhead size and weighting.

  • Adjustable tungsten weights in the back make it easy to fit your putter to your swing.

  • Very easy to align.

  • The weight is pushed as far back as possible and distributed along the perimeter of the club so that the sweet spot is huge.

Cons

  • One of the most expensive price tags on the list.

  • It has a huge head, and some players may prefer the size, look, and feel of a blade putter. Even players looking to move to a mallet style putter can be put off by the size of the Spider.

Until Monday!
