⛳️ PGA and LIV Merger?

👀 deadline is around the corner

Hey fellow golfer, welcome to the Wednesday edition of the Red Birdie Golf newsletter, here’s what we got for you today:

TOURNAMENT NEWS

PGA TOUR

The next PGA Tour event is not until January, but there is a lot of news going on with the Tour.

Jon Rahm has made the biggest splash with his move from the PGA Tour to the LIV Tour for a reported $600 million.

Rahm could win every PGA Tour event for a few years and not approach the kind of money he just made by signing his name. The question is, what’s next for the PGA?

Chief among those who have gained something with Rahm’s departure is PGA Tour Pro Mackenzie Hughes from Canada.

Hughes went from 51 in the world to 50 which means that he can play in each of the 8 signature events in 2024.

LIV TOUR

While the PGA Tour is reeling, the LIV Tour just keeps moving along, writing big checks, and not really making much money or gaining in popularity.

For whatever reason, that does not seem to matter as the Tour just continues to offer mind-blowing contracts to people just for signing their name.

DP TOUR

The Mauritius Open will start Thursday and will be the final event of the calendar year for the European Tour.

The Heritage La Reserve course on the island of Mauritius is beautiful and challenging not to mention unique.

Since it is the final event of the year on any tour, many of the big names will be sitting this one out which opens the door for some new golfers to step up.

Some of the guys teeing it up this weekend includes Matthieu Pavon, Guido Migliozzi, Marcel Siem, Louis Oosthuizen, and Wilco Nienaber.

We are pulling for the long-driving Nienaber to step up and win this one.

If he can ever put the rest of his game together, he will be a huge draw on whatever tour he plays on because of his enormous power and aggressive style of play.

LPGA TOUR

The next LPGA Tour event does not tee off until January 18.

The tour did announce its 2024 schedule and 2024 is already shaping up to be one of the best year’s yet for the LPGA.

December 31 Deadline: PGA and LIV Merger?

With the Dec. 31 deadline just around the corner in less than 3 weeks, PGA Tour golfers are starting to get a little nervous about the deal.

In fact, a group of 21 lower ranked golfers have just followed a lawsuit demanding transparency though out the process.

These golfers believe they are being shut out of the entire process and these negotiations may mean more to them than anyone since their livelihood is riding on them.

More than likely, the deadline will be pushed back, and if talks are still moving slowly, it can easily be pushed back again.

The real questions is this: “Will a deal get made in 2024 or ever?

NEW GOLF GEAR

A very long name for a really great looking and performing shoe.

The G/Fore line of apparel and footwear is sleek and stylish without losing an ounce of flexibility and give.

The MG4X2 looks like a regular cross-trainer, and a stylish one at that.

In fact, if you just saw the top of the shoe, there is no way to even know that it is a golf she.

Looking at the bottom, however, you will find the traction and stability features that give your swing its foundation and balance.

G/Fore products are expensive, but they look as nice as their price tags.

PGA vs LIV

There is still a huge competition between LIV and the PGA as the agreed upon Dec. 31 date looms.

The best thing for both sides to do right now is just to move the date back a few months and keep negotiating.

If you are the PGA Tour, that may not sound great because your best golfers are getting picked off left and right.

On the other hand, they have to do something to get Rahm, Koepka, etc. back and it seems like negotiations with the Saudis is the only way that is going to happen.

Remember, the PGA Tour runs off of the revenue it brings in.

The LIV Tour runs off the wealth of some of the richest people in the world who do not think twice about writing a check with 7+ zeroes behind it.
