⛳️ Tiger is back! 🐯

Hey fellow golfer, welcome to the Wednesday edition of the Red Birdie Golf newsletter, here’s what we got for you today:

TOURNAMENT NEWS

PGA TOUR

The Hero World Challenge takes place this weekend at the Albany Resort in The Bahamas.

There are a lot of really good golfers teeing it up in this Tiger Woods hosted tournament including Scottie Scheffler, Viktor Hovland, Wyndham Clark, Tony Finau, and more.

Even with all of the best golfers teeing it up on Thursday, the eyes of the entire golf world will be focused on one person…Tiger Woods.

After making the cut at the Masters, Tiger bowed out due to injury and had surgery immediately following the withdrawal. This is his first event back.

While Viktor Hovland is the two-time defending champion, our pick to win this one is Justin Thomas.

If Thomas does not play well, look for Collin Morikawa to continue moving back up leaderboards in The Bahamas.

LIV TOUR

The LIV Tour will start again in calendar year 2024.

DP TOUR

The South African Open will start this Thursday as well albeit with a much less accomplished field than the Hero World Challenge.

The name of the game in this tournament is power, and there are some players with a lot of it.

If you want to see some bombs off the tee, Google the name Wilco Nienaber.

He hits some of the longest shots you will see outside of the long drive championships.

Marco Penge will also be teeing it up this weekend and he averages 341 yards from the tee while finding the fairway more than 54% of the time.

This is a power course, but the 23-year-old Nienaber has not yet found his game.

Watch for Marco Penge to show up on the leaderboard this weekend.

His game is not refined and he struggles on and around the green, but he does one thing very well, he attacks, and that is what this course calls for.

LPGA TOUR

The next LPGA Tour event is still a week away with the Grant Thornton Invitational in Naples, FL. It is the inaugural event and the last LPGA event until January.

Tiger’s Comeback

In the world of golf, one person moves the needle more than any other, and that is, of course, Tiger Woods.

Tiger will be making his return this weekend and playing in his first tournament since he withdrew from the Masters with an injury.

I have no idea what the actual numbers would show, but the different in viewership when Tiger plays compared to when he doesn’t is still noticeable.

Not only is this the first time Tiger is playing since the Masters, it is the first time he is really making public comments about the game.

Who knows if this comeback will work and if it will vault Tiger back into the spotlight, but one thing is sure…He is planning on playing this weekend.

New Tech Golf League Postpones Launch to 2025

The Tech Golf League, set up by a company involving Rory and Tiger among others, has postponed its January 9 start to sometime in 2025.

There was supposed to be a 15 match series starting that day, but the primary venue for the event experienced structural damage and it was too difficult to figure out the logistics for a new facility.
